We are outraged that Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and JC City Council have decided to hold an Israeli flag raising ceremony on Wednesday, April 30, at City Hall “celebrating 77 years of Independence.”
The deliberate Israeli attack on Gaza and the West Bank has;

*ethnically cleansed Palestinians of their land for 77 years

*perpetrated, what the International Criminal Court has ruled a plausible genocide against the people of Gaza for 18 months, killing over 50,000 people, including 20,000 children

*killed family members of Jersey City residents

*left orphaned 39,000 children

*left 4,000 children as amputees

*assassinated 206 journalists and 406 aide workers

*bombed and left all hospitals and healthcare facilities inoperable, and killed over 1,000 doctors and healthcare workers, which will cause thousands more to die due to the lack of any healthcare system

*bombed schools, universities, refugee camps and water treatment facilities, leaving the 2 million people of Gaza without food, water, electricity or fuel

*blocked all food, water and medical supplies from entering Gaza

*ignored the ICJ’s ruling that Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza is illegal under international law and that its imposed regime of apartheid in the occupied Palestinian territory constitutes discrimination against its Palestinian residents. Israel has continued to carry out attacks on villages in the West Bank, one of which has resulted in the injury and death of a New Jersey American citizen

*ignored the ICC warrants for the arrest of Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu and Mr. Yoav Gallant for crimes against humanity and war crimes.

We cannot separate the Israeli flag from the actions of the Israeli government’s assault on Gaza and the West Bank. This flag raising event is an abomination and an insult to all those who value human life and human rights.
