Petition Against Liquor License for Giant Penny Whistle / Petición contra la licencia de licor por Giant Penny Whistle
Mayor Lori Lightfoot
In spite of all the gentrification and displacement our neighborhood has faced, Mayor Lightfoot chose to illegally bypass our community process and approve a 300-person-capacity bar in the middle of a school, library, and hundreds of family residences. Over decades, community activists fought for and won a moratorium on liquor licenses in the area, recognizing how they've brought more gentrification and violence and pushed more families out of Pilsen. Nevertheless, Mayor Lightfoot decided to illegally bypass this moratorium and support this establishment in alignment with disgraced former Alderman Danny Solis. As a community, we will not sit idly by and allow this to happen. We will resist, we will defend our neighborhood, and we will win safe and affordable housing for our community! We demand Mayor Lightfoot revoke this license IMMEDIATELY, before it's too late!
Please sign and share this petition far and wide!

Dear Mayor Lightfoot,
As a community resident, a taxpayer and community stakeholder, I am deeply perturbed by the unilateral decision of an issuance of a Liquor License to operate solely as a bar for Giant Penny Whistle located at 1854-56 South Blue Island Ave, Chicago Illinois 60608 in violation of an existing liquor moratorium in our area. As residents and stakeholders, we have been working to create a healthier community that preserves its character, culture and above all safe neighborhood.
I am completely perplexed as to why the City of Chicago settled a lawsuit in December 2020 that paves the way for this liquor license without any due process regarding the existing liquor moratorium, no community notice or engagement. As residents and taxpayers, we demand a revocation of the license for this establishment for violating the existing liquor moratorium in the area.

Estimado Alcalde Lightfoot,
