Petition: Tax the Ultra-Rich & Invest in Our New York!

Governor Hochul and New York State lawmakers

New Yorkers deserve a state that invests in us—not one that prioritizes the wealth of billionaires and corporations over working people. But right now, outdated tax laws allow the ultra-rich to get even richer while essential public services like healthcare, housing, and education face devastating cuts.

Meanwhile, Governor Hochul refuses to enact state-level policies that could counteract federal cuts of up to $86 billion (Almost 40% of NY State Budget)—leaving everyday New Yorkers to struggle with an affordability crisis that is forcing too many out of the state.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We have the power to fix this by making the ultra-rich and highly profitable corporations pay their fair share in taxes. The Invest in Our New York campaign is calling for a budget that:

  • Makes income taxes more progressive so the wealthiest pay what they truly owe.

  • Raises corporate taxes on the most profitable businesses operating in our state.

  • Implements a capital gains tax to ensure investment income is taxed fairly.

  • Taxes billionaire wealth so they contribute like the rest of us.

  • Creates an heirs tax to prevent wealth hoarding across generations.

These common-sense policies would raise over $64 billion annually—funding the services and programs New Yorkers rely on. New Yorkers overwhelmingly support these measures—it’s time for our leaders to listen.

Join us! Sign this petition to demand that Governor Hochul and state lawmakers pass a budget that prioritizes people over profits. We demand a fair tax system that works for all New Yorkers, not just the wealthy few.

Dear Governor Hochul,

New Yorkers deserve a state that invests in us—not one that prioritizes the wealth of billionaires and corporations over working people. Yet, outdated tax laws allow the ultra-rich to amass even more wealth while essential public services like healthcare, housing, and education face devastating cuts.

Despite the looming federal cuts of up to $86 billion—almost 40% of New York’s state budget—you have refused to enact state-level policies that could counteract this loss. Everyday New Yorkers are bearing the burden of an affordability crisis, forcing far too many to leave the state in search of economic relief.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We have the power to fix this by making the ultra-rich and highly profitable corporations pay their fair share in taxes. The Invest in Our New York campaign is calling for a budget that:

Makes income taxes more progressive so the wealthiest pay what they truly owe.

Raises corporate taxes on the most profitable businesses operating in our state.

Implements a capital gains tax to ensure investment income is taxed fairly.

Taxes billionaire wealth so they contribute like the rest of us.

Creates an heirs tax to prevent wealth hoarding across generations.

These common-sense policies would raise over $64 billion annually, providing the funding needed to sustain and strengthen the services and programs that New Yorkers rely on every day. The people of New York overwhelmingly support these measures, and it’s time for our leaders to listen.

We urge you to stand with working families and support a fair tax system that ensures everyone contributes their fair share. Please pass a budget that prioritizes people over profits.

Sincerely,
