Tell the new Democracy Minister: its time to scrap First Past the Post

Samantha Dixon MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Building Safety, Fire and Democracy)

First Past The Post undermines our politics.

It leaves most of us with representatives not of our choosing - depriving us of a say in how our lives are governed. It delivers chaos and instability in our politics.

The government has set out to address the crisis of trust in politics. Westminster’s broken voting system stands in the way of that mission. Our election results are more distorted than ever, leaving millions of people without a voice.

We need a voting system that enfranchises us, and gives us a strong platform to deliver the effective governance the country needs.

Sign below to demand an end to this broken system and that the government adopt Proportional Representation in elections to Westminster, so that all votes count equally

First Past The Post holds Britain back. It leaves most of us with representatives not of our choosing - depriving us of a say in how our lives are governed. It delivers chaos and instability in our politics.

Your government has set out to address the crisis of trust in politics. Westminster’s broken voting system stands in the way of that mission. Our election results are more distorted than ever, leaving millions of people without a voice.

The 2025 local and Mayoral elections - like the 2024 General Election - exposed how unfair, disproportional and broken our voting system is.

We the undersigned implore the government to use the forthcoming Elections Bill to address our broken voting system and adopt Proportional Representation in our elections.
