Petition to Fully or Partially Suspend Rent at Danbro Studios

Danbro Studios

We're musicians. We don't make a lot of money doing what we do. And since the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us who were earning money through gigs, through work in the service industry, or through side hustles are now not making any money at all.

Danbro Studios exists because of the community of musicians who choose to rehearse and make music within its walls. We're in this together. Given the magnitude of the current crisis, it's only right that Danbro work with us as much as possible until we can all get back on our feet.

It being given that:

the COVID-19 pandemic has caused extreme financial distress to the people of New York;

that as musicians, many of whom support ourselves by work in the service industry and the gig economy, we have been among those most impacted by the crisis;

that many of us are currently unemployed and have no means to pay rent;

that in recognition of the unprecedented nature of the crisis, many residential and commercial landlords have offered tenants full or partial rent abatements in the coming months;

that to the same end, the Governor of New York has directed state mortgage services to waive mortgage payments based on financial hardship, and has additionally enacted a 90-day moratorium on all residential and commercial evictions;

that in addition to bearing the financial hardships incurred by the crisis, the musicians and artists of Danbro Studios are unable to utilize the studios for their intended purpose due to social distancing requirements mandated by the city and state of New York;

and that beyond those restrictions, the management of Danbro Studios has effectively closed the building, thus further depriving the tenants of its intended usage:

We, the musicians and artists who use the studios at 260-272 Meserole Street, request that management fully or partially abate rents in the coming months until the resolution of the crisis;

or else if this is not possible, provide as full and transparent as possible an explanation to the tenants of Danbro Studios as to why this is the case.
