Petition to Liberate the Historic Compton’s Cafeteria Site from GEO Group

Representatives of San Francisco

The site of the historic 1966 Compton’s Cafeteria Riot—at 111 Taylor Street in San Francisco—is currently operated by GEO Group, a private prison corporation with a long record of labor abuse, human rights violations, and immigrant detention.

This landmark of queer and trans resistance must be protected—not exploited.

GEO Group’s state reentry contract expires on June 30, 2025. We call on:

  • Governor Newsom, CDCR, and SF Officials to reject contract renewals.

  • SF Planning to investigate GEO’s zoning violations.

  • SF Supervisors to expand the historic landmark designation.

  • The City to support interim protection and eventual community ownership.

Sign to demand the return of 111 Taylor to the community it belongs to. Let’s liberate this historical site and transform it into a trans-centered hub for healing, housing, and collective care.
