Petition to Nominate Diana Moreno as Democratic Candidate for NY AD36

Democratic District Leaders for NY AD36, Queens Democratic Party

A special election is coming up to fill the Assembly District 36 seat — and we have an opportunity to support a candidate who truly represents the values and needs of our community.

Diana Moreno is a Queens mom, an immigrant, and a longtime organizer who has spent more than a decade fighting for working people — unionizing educators, standing with nurses and healthcare workers, defending immigrant rights, and advocating for accessible, affordable housing and healthcare. She’s deeply rooted in our neighborhoods and has earned the trust of those she’s worked alongside for years.

With Zohran Mamdani moving on to become mayor, our district needs someone who will carry forward his bold, people-first agenda — and Diana is ready to do that on Day One. She’s not a career politician. She’s someone who’s shown up for our community, time and again.

But in a special election, the Democratic nominee isn’t chosen in a primary — it’s chosen by the Queens Democratic Party.

That’s why we’re signing an open letter to our elected Democratic District Leaders for AD36, urging them and the other members of the Queens Democratic Party to nominate Diana Moreno as the Democratic candidate in this special election.

Diana isn’t just the candidate who reflects our values — she’s also the candidate best positioned to win this special election, the June primary, and the November general election. Her organizing experience, her deep ties to the community, and her commitment to a clear, progressive vision make her a strong and unifying choice for Democrats in AD36.

If you believe our next Assemblymember should be someone who will fight for us — and win, then we ask you to join us in signing this letter.

Signatures collected will be compiled and delivered to the District Leaders on January 1, 2026.

I am writing to express my strong support for Diana Moreno in the upcoming special election for Assembly District 36. Diana is a Queens mom, an immigrant organizer, and a community leader whose life story — shaped by her family’s immigration from Ecuador and her working-class upbringing — reflects the experiences of so many in our district. Her decade of organizing on behalf of workers, immigrants, and families has earned her broad trust and recognition across the community.

Diana’s long record of advocacy — unionizing faculty and graduate workers, defending migrant farmworkers and undocumented workers, and supporting nurses and healthcare workers in winning fair contracts — demonstrates not only her values but her capacity to deliver results. She has been an active participant in the civic and community-based work that has strengthened the fabric of our neighborhood, collaborating closely with Mayor Zohran Mamdani. With Zohran having departed the Assembly, Diana offers continuity, steadiness, and a clear understanding of the policy direction that many residents have consistently supported.

Diana has the community roots, coalition relationships, and broad appeal necessary not only to succeed in the special election, but to carry that strength into the June primary and November general election.

Thank you for your consideration.
