Petition to Repeal Missouri’s Statewide School Cellphone Restrictions
Missouri General Assembly and the Governor of Missouri
Students and families deserve to know that students can communicate with their parents or guardians during serious emergencies at school. While schools have legitimate reasons to limit cellphone use during class, a complete or overly restrictive statewide policy can make it harder for students to contact their families when an emergency occurs.
We are asking Missouri lawmakers to review the current statewide cellphone restrictions and create a policy that balances classroom learning with student safety, emergency communication, and parents’ ability to reach their children when it matters most.
No student should have to choose between following a cellphone rule and being able to communicate with their family during a genuine emergency.

We call on the Missouri General Assembly to review and change the statewide restrictions on student cellphone use in schools. We believe students should have a reasonable way to access their phones during serious emergencies so they can communicate with parents, guardians, and emergency services when necessary.
We support reasonable limits on cellphone use during instruction, but we ask Missouri lawmakers to create an emergency exception that prioritizes student safety and communication.
