✍️ Petition to Stop Uber & Lyft’s Unfair Black Car Vehicle Removals

Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, New York City Council, and Taxi Limousine Commission

UNITY IS THE KEY PATIANT IS THE WAY.
REAL BLACK CAR UNION

To: NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission, Uber & Lyft Executives, Elected Officials, Media, and the Public

We, the undersigned NYC professional drivers, demand that Uber and Lyft immediately reverse their decision to remove the following vehicles from the Black Car category — a reckless move that would devastate thousands of drivers and families:

Aston Martin Rapide • Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron • Audi RS e-tron GT • BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe • BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe • BMW Alpina B8 • Cadillac ATS • Cadillac CTS • Cadillac CTS-V • Ford Mustang Mach-E • Jaguar I-PACE • Land Rover Range Rover Evoque • Lexus ES • Lincoln MKZ • Maserati Ghibli • Mercedes-Benz AMG GT • Porsche Macan • Rolls-Royce Wraith • Tesla Model Y

⚠️ This is not just a policy change — it’s financial sabotage.

  • Uber and Lyft approved these vehicles for Black and Black SUV rides.

  • Drivers spent $50,000 or more per vehicle, often taking out loans and making sacrifices, to meet these standards.

  • Now, without warning, these same companies are revoking eligibility, stripping drivers of promised earnings and leaving them with crushing debt.

This is not an accident. This is corporate betrayal.

🚫 A Pattern of Exploitation

Uber and Lyft repeatedly abuse drivers by:

  • Cutting pay without notice.

  • Changing vehicle requirements overnight.

  • Creating confusing categories (Black, Comfort, XL, Premier) with no accountability.

  • Shifting all risks to drivers while protecting corporate profits.

Our Demands: Respect. Fairness. Accountability.

We call on the NYC TLC, elected officials, and platform executives to act immediately.

  1. Stop the removal of these vehicles from Black Car service.

  2. Grandfather protections for all drivers who purchased vehicles while they were approved.

  3. Clear, consistent vehicle eligibility policies with advance notice.

  4. Equal rules and protections across all Uber and Lyft categories.

  5. End surprise pay cuts and sudden deactivations.

  6. Protect green and electric vehicles — don’t punish drivers for going clean.

📉 Drivers Are Not Disposable

We are not numbers on a spreadsheet. We are working people, parents, immigrants, New Yorkers. We keep this city moving every single day.

When platforms make false promises and change policies overnight, they destabilize not just drivers — but families, our industry, and the economy.

🗽 We Will Not Stay Silent

We are organizing. We are rallying. We are building a driver-led movement that will not back down.

If this change goes through, thousands of families will suffer — and the blame will lie with the companies and regulators who allowed it to happen.

📣 To the TLC: Regulate fairly. Enforce transparency. Protect drivers.

Drivers are not asking for favors. We are demanding justice and accountability.

Drivers are united — and we will not stop until fairness is restored.
