Port Chester Resists and rejects agreement with Immigration Custom Enforcement (ICE)

Mayor: Richard A. Falanka; Board Of Trustees: Gregory K. Adams, Daniel Brakewood, Gene Ceccarelli, Frank Ferrara, Bart Didden; Chief Of Police: Richard Conway.

The immigrant community of Port Chester has said decisively and firmly: NO TO ICE (IMMIGRATION CUSTOMS) IN OUR VILLA. We ask the main authorities: Chief of Police, Mayor and City Council to clearly reject and do not accept any collaboration agreement with ICE. Our voices are opposed because the proposal sent by ICE clearly states that it will ask the police to collaborate and VERIFY the immigration status of those who "live in the jurisdiction". In 8 US Code & 1373 articles (a)(b) says "ADDITIONAL AUTHORITY OF GOVERNMENT ENTITIES, Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal, State, or local law, no person or agency may prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.

Luis Marino, the only Latin Councilman and strong advocate of the migrants said that he will oppose with absolute firmness and called for the community to say NO to this proposal.

** We call our community to action and resistance. Not to allow these policies of fears to continue.
** WE INVITE to sign this petition and send a strong message of action and resistance and in defense of our immigrant community.
** We need all the voices, we need to together protect ourselves and say ENOUGH! NO MORE DEPORTATION

To: Mayor: Richard A. Falanka; Board Of Trustees: Gregory K. Adams, Daniel Brakewood, Gene Ceccarelli, Frank Ferrara, Bart Didden; Chief Of Police: Richard Conway.
From: [Your Name]

Dear authorities,
As a resident of the Village of Port Chester, I respectfully address myself to ask you DO NOT ACCEPT or sign any agreement that compromises confidence in our Police.
Our People spoke forcefully about how it would tear apart the trust that exists between the police and the community. It would introduce fear and make people unwilling to report crimes or call for help. Our Chief Conway thinks protecting this relationship is one of the most important parts of his job.
We ask that the proposal sent is not considered as a new practice of the Police in its relationship with the community. We trust that you, listen and respond to our request, which will give us greater security, tranquility and confidence.

For your attention, we express our gratitude.

Sincerely,
