Protect Caroline County Families

Caroline County Board of Education

This new school year is unlike any other we have seen before. School districts across the country are faced with difficult decisions to make sure our schools reopen safely and continue to meet the needs of students, staff and communities. We need our school leaders to prioritize protecting our families as they navigate these tough decisions on school reopening.

CCPS has currently laid off 83 support staff personnel. These are 83 families, many with children in Caroline County Public Schools, who are now without income and insurance. At this extraordinary time, we need all staff, not fewer staff, to help meet the needs of students and families.

CCPS is currently requiring all staff to teach virtually from school buildings. Despite telework being encouraged by health experts, the CDC and state government, CCPS is offering telework in only very limited circumstances. Staff and families should be provided with increased flexibility for the health and safety of all.

Stand with the CCEA as we raise our voices for the health and safety of students, families, and educators in Caroline County. Please sign and share this petition.

We call on the Caroline County Board of Education to protect our families by:

Ensuring health and safety:
- Make provisions for CCPS employees to continue teleworking.
-Include all stakeholders in decisions in the development of health and safety guidelines for students, staff, community and visitors in our schools.

Ensuring our job security:
-Utilize all job classifications as we take on the challenges of distance learning.
-Keep jobs in our community by rescinding the layoffs of support staff personnel.
