Protect Community Services at 6505 Belcrest Road

Prince George's County Executive Aisha Braveboy, the Prince George's County Council, the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE), and other relevant County officials

Prince George's County Executive Aisha Braveboy, the Prince George's County Council, the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE), and other relevant County officials

We, the undersigned residents, workers, faith leaders, and supporters of Prince George's County, urge the County to protect 6505 Belcrest Road (Metro 1) as a safe and welcoming place for everyone to access essential public services.

6505 Belcrest Road is home to vital community resources that thousands of residents rely on, including the Prince George's County Department of Social Services, food assistance programs, and other public services. Families should never have to fear seeking help because of immigration enforcement activity.

Earlier this year, the Prince George's County Council adopted the Community Safe Spaces Act (CB-006-2026) to establish guidance limiting immigration enforcement in County facilities and requiring the County Executive to develop policies to help protect residents seeking County services.

Community members have also learned that a permit related to the proposed ICE facility at 6505 Belcrest Road was reportedly issued by the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE). We believe the public deserves complete transparency regarding this decision and how it aligns with the County's stated commitment to protecting immigrant communities.

We respectfully call upon Prince George's County to:

Immediately disclose all permits, applications, approvals, inspections, and correspondence related to proposed ICE operations at 6505 Belcrest Road.
Review the issuance of any permits associated with the proposed ICE facility to ensure they comply with all applicable County laws, regulations, and policies.
Ensure that County policies protecting immigrant communities are fully implemented, including the intent of the Community Safe Spaces Act and related immigration legislation adopted by the County Council.
Protect uninterrupted access to public services at 6505 Belcrest Road so that every resident can obtain food assistance, public benefits, healthcare referrals, and other essential services without fear.
Provide a public explanation of the permitting process, including what type of permit was issued, when it was approved, and what legal effect it has.
Prince George's County has repeatedly affirmed that it is committed to protecting the dignity, safety, and constitutional rights of all residents regardless of immigration status. We ask our elected leaders to uphold those commitments through transparency, accountability, and policies that ensure County facilities remain places of trust—not fear.

By signing this petition, you join us in calling for:

Transparency in the permitting process.
Protection of community services.
Accountability from County officials.
A Prince George's County where every resident can safely access essential public resources.
Protect Our Community. Protect Public Services. Keep 6505 Belcrest Road a Safe Space for All.
