Giant towers don't belong next to single-family neighborhoods.
Right now, our current zoning laws protect our communities by banning developers from building giant high-rises right next to single-family homes. But those vital protections are in danger of being overturned.
The Fort Lauderdale City Commission may be considering a request by Tavistock (Pier 66) to build giant 270-foot towers (approximately 24 stories) on property where these structures are strictly banned. Going from the allowed 120 feet to 270 feet is not a modest increase—it is more than twice as tall, adding an extra 150 feet of high-rise reality right to our backyards.
If the City Commission approves this zoning change for Tavistock, it won't stop there. It will open the floodgates for developers to build giant towers next to single-family homes throughout all of Fort Lauderdale.
Our neighborhood protection laws exist for a reason. Neighborhoods at risk across our city include:
• Harbour Inlet
• Rio Vista
• Victoria Park
• Lake Ridge
• Poinsettia Heights
• Middle River Terrace
• South Middle River
• Lauderdale Manors
• Melrose Manors
• Harbordale
• Poinciana Park
• Coral Ridge
• Imperial Point
• Knoll Ridge
• Edgewood
• Coral Ridge Country Club Estates
We demand that the City Commission say NO to the Tavistock (Pier 66) zoning change. Keep the ban. Protect our homes, our zoning laws, and our neighborhoods.
