Protect Journalists Covering the LA Protests

California Attorney General Rob Bonta

The free press is under attack in LA. It’s up to us to defend it.

Independent reporting organizations have verified at least 40 incidents of violence against journalists covering immigration‑raids protests in Los Angeles from June  6 to June 12.

Worse yet, 35 of these attacks were committed by police officers sworn to protect our rights. Journalists faced rubber bullets, pepper balls, tear gas canisters, and physical obstruction — all while visibly identifying as press.

Journalism cannot play its critical role in supporting democracy if reporters are silenced or harmed.

We demand that California Attorney General Rob Bonta seek an immediate restraining order and launch an investigation to ensure those who attack the free press face consequences.

All authorities, from local police to federal agents, must stop targeting journalists, ensure clear protections and safe access in protest zones, and hold anyone who violently obstructs news reporting accountable.

Sign to defend press freedom and support safeguards for journalists on the front lines.
