Protect Philly from Predatory Data Centers
Philadelphia City Council
Developers won’t confirm or deny plans for a massive data center in Philadelphia’s Bellwether District, leaving Philadelphians in the dark. These are monstrous facilities that guzzle electricity and water, pollute the air, raise utility bills and drain local economies; Our communities deserve to know what’s coming to their neighborhoods.
These behemoth data centers power corporate tech projects that store, process and generate profit from our personal data, further enriching billionaires while our communities pay the price. Developers won’t confirm or deny plans for a data center, but we say no. We won’t let Philly be next.
We’re calling on City Council to say no to predatory data centers and protect our communities’ power to decide what development and future is right for our families and neighborhoods. Lawmakers can’t always be two steps behind Big Tech. City Council must act now to make sure that Philly's beloved neighborhoods aren’t sacrificed for corporate profit.
Data centers are a hidden threat to our everyday life.
One data center alone can use as much power as a small city, driving up neighborhood electricity bills and sticking residents with the cost – all to power generative AI in the hands of billionaires who steal our data, surveil Black and brown communities, and displace workers around the world.
Data centers also drain hundreds of thousands of gallons of water every day, jeopardizing local water supplies.
The constant hum and air pollution from data centers makes the air dangerous to breathe and exacerbates asthma and other serious health conditions. These development projects are often forced on low-income communities of color that are already struggling.
Data centers drain our local communities and economies, giving tax breaks and subsidies to big corporations while creating very few jobs, and funneling money away from our actual needs like public education, healthcare, and public transit.
We say no. We won’t let Big Tech bulldoze our city. City Council must step up to protect people, not corporate profits. Sign on now to demand City Council pledge: No data centers in Philly.

Philadelphia has a proud history of fighting for our neighborhoods and our right to decide what development and future is right for our families and communities. I am calling on City Council to honor that history and protect our city from predatory data centers.
While developers won’t confirm or deny plans for a massive data center in the Bellwether District, leaving Philadelphians in the dark about the future of their neighborhoods. These behemoth facilities guzzle electricity and water, pollute the air, raise utility bills, and drain local economies. Philly can't afford more development projects that further enrich billionaires while the rest of us pay the price.
Our communities deserve transparency and development that meets our needs, not projects that sacrifice our health and future for corporate profit.
I am calling on City Council to say no to predatory data centers and pledge: No data centers in Philadelphia. Protect our neighborhoods, not Big Tech’s bottom line.
