Plumas schools are the heart of our community. Teachers who live and work in this county care deeply about their students. They go over and above to support our community’s most vulnerable kids. Buying school supplies with their own money, making sure kids have food to eat, and coats to wear.

And now, their jobs are at risk.

After years of poor financial management, Plumas Unified School District is under state takeover with a county-appointed administrator solely making all the decisions. His answer to closing budget gaps? Cutting 20% to 25% of certified full time jobs from our schools.

Our kids need their teachers. Our families and friends need their jobs. Cutting resources and teachers at schools will hurt our community’s most vulnerable children.

We stand with Plumas teachers and we call on the county-appointed administrator AND the school board to advocate for Plumas kids by keeping teachers and instructional staff with our kids. We call on them not to sacrifice student-facing resources in response to the district’s fiscal crisis. We MUST work together to ensure that Plumas students continue to have access to the much-needed resources, support and education they deserve.
