Public Restrooms For All!

The Kalamazoo City Commission

Using the restroom is universal. It is one of the few things in our unequal society that we all share. Therefore, it’s in everyone’s interests that we all have access to clean, free and public 24/7 restrooms in our community.

The Public Restrooms in Kalamazoo are few and are found in areas that are closed after typical business hours. There is only one public restroom in our city that is open 24/7. This is appalling for a city that wants to be inviting for Kalamazoo’s visitors, shoppers, and residents.

The Southwest Michigan chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (SWMI DSA) has established a Public Health Working Group to advocate for the installation of at least three more 24/7 public restrooms within the City of Kalamazoo.

We are excited to begin building an expansive coalition of partners from across the community in support of this goal. We encourage individuals, organizations and other community members to join us in this campaign and help create public spaces that are accessible to Kalamazoo’s visitors, shoppers, and residents.
