Put a Halt to Testing

The RI General Assembly and Department of Education

As parents, educators and community members, we say enough is enough. We are taking a stand against the misuse and overuse of standardized testing in our schools. We want to restore time for real teaching and learning.

As parents, educators and community members, we appeal to you to reconsider the current burden of standardized testing placed on our students and schools. Instead, we support:
* The rights of all parents to opt-out their children from this standardized testing without fear of repercussions. We call for the passage of Rep. Gregg Amore's bill, H 5845, which requires the RI Commissioner of Education to establish an opt-out procedure for all districts.
* A reduction in testing across all grade levels and a return to the focus on the whole child educational concept, with adequate support for library, music, art, physical education, and recess programs.
