Quad City Community Choice Energy

Prescott General Plan committee, Prescott, Chino Valley, Prescott Valley and Dewey City Councils

Prescott, Chino Valley, Prescott Valley and Dewey residents would like to see more choice in energy purchases. Obtaining alternative energy sources through a community aggregate system would create more affordable energy, use of clean renewable energy, support of competition, and local control.

We are very concerned about climate change and we urge the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors and the Prescott, Prescott Valley, Dewey and Chino Valley City Council’s to work together to speed up the transition to a clean electrical grid by supporting Community Choice Energy (CCE). CCE allows local governments to purchase power to meet their community’s electricity needs, offering an alternative to investor-owned utilities. CCE offers competitive prices and clean energy options while reinvesting revenues into programs that benefit members’ communities. We call on Yavapai County to support the CCE through the following actions: (1) Seek grant funding for a feasibility study of CCE for our area. (2) Lobby the Arizona Legislature for CCE enabling legislation. (3) Once legislation is in place, work with the Arizona Corporation Commission to draft regulations favorable to the success of CCEs in Arizona.
