Release Max Londonio from Segregation & from the Northwest Detention Center! Defend Migrant Workers!

Philippine Ambassador Romualdez and Washington State Congresspeople

This Father’s Day, we appeal to our community to act urgently for Max Londonio and all fathers who have been wrenched from their families under the Trump administration’s brutal attacks on migrants. Max Londonio has been a pillar of support, not only for his wife, Crystal, and their daughters, who depend on him financially and as a loving father, but also for his fellow detained migrants at the Northwest Detention Center.

Despite facing mistreatment and inhumane conditions, Max has built a vibrant and loving community within detention. He’s formed close bonds with people from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. He shares stories about eating as a community, especially when food is scarce and poor in quality. Thanks to the snacks Crystal and their daughters send, Max is able to share with others, something he takes great joy in.

He has defended and looked out for the welfare of others who are also facing neglect. He has even fought for the successful release of another Filipino father, Rodante Rivera, who will now be able to spend today with his family.

Yesterday, on June 14, 2025, Crystal notified Tanggol Migrante that Max was reprocessed into a higher level of security. He was placed in isolation and segregated from others, including the community he had built over the last month. GEO Group has wrongly profiled Max and uses this as a basis for his segregation. The new unit he has been put in is currently on lockdown, which further limits his movement and contact with others.

In reality, GEO Group is incorrectly profiling Max and causing him harm. This is a dangerous and violent act as we know many immigrants and migrants, such as Kilmar Abrego Garcia, have been deported to third-party countries and had their rights violated because of this profiling.

The GEO Group claims this move is for Max’s safety, but in reality, it isolates him from the community where he feels safest. Within hours of learning the news, another detainee who had been housed with Max in his former unit reached out to Crystal and sent the following message:

Sorry to hear Max got moved. Please let him know everyone here is missing him. Please send our regards to him. Stay strong. It will all be over soon.

He is now held in indefinite lockdown, cut off from all contact. Unlike before, he must be escorted by two guards whenever he moves. This shift in treatment is a direct result of the GEO Group’s profiling, and it has led to intensified punishment and stricter confinement.

Max has submitted an appeal request, but won’t receive a response until Monday or Tuesday.

How have the U.S. and Philippine governments responded?

Despite public claims of support, both the U.S. and Philippine governments have failed to provide Max and his family with meaningful assistance. On May 29th, the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco visited NWDC, but detainees, including Max, described the visit as “not helpful” and “fruitless.” When Max asked if they would advocate for him, Philippine consular officials shared an unwillingness to uphold their responsibilities to protect him, stating that they would follow whatever decision the U.S. administration made. The next day, May 30th, Congress Members Emily Randall, Pramila Jayapal, and Maxine Waters made an unannounced visit to NWDC and met with Max. Although they assured him he would receive legal representation, Max still does not have a lawyer with his court date fast approaching.

We have been patiently waiting for action, but the situation for Max and all migrants is worsening. We urge Philippine and U.S. government officials to fulfill their duties to those they are responsible for and take immediate action.

Through our campaign for Max, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell has committed to raising our community’s concerns and demands to the Philippine Embassy. This Father’s Day, the Tanggol Migrante Network is asking our community to add your voice to our efforts by signing on as individuals and organizations to show the breadth of support for Max and all migrants.

Our demands are the following:

  • To the Philippine Consulate, United States Congresspeople, and all responsible U.S. and Philippine state officials: Intervene and advocate for Maximo to be immediately removed from segregation and back to his previous unit. Push for his immediate release from the Northwest Detention Center!

  • To Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal: Keep your promise and ensure Max secures legal representation now! Intervene and ensure Max’s rights are upheld and he is returned to his previous unit.

  • To the San Francisco Philippine Consulate and Embassy: Ensure the rights and welfare of your nationals are upheld and utilize diplomatic advocacy to push for release of all Filipinos from unjust detention. Provide immediate financial and full coverage for legal support for Max and his family in the form of Assistance to Nationals (ATN).

  • To ICE: Expedite Max’s appeal to return to his previous unit and stop the blatant profiling of detainees and recklessly placing them in units against their will.

As a part of the Tanggol Migrante Network, we appeal to our Philippine and US representatives to act urgently for Max Londonio and other Filipinos in detention, who have been wrenched from their families under the Trump administration’s brutal attacks on migrants.

The inhumane treatment that Philippine nationals are experiencing under the current US administration is deplorable and we need immediate and urgent action to ensure the rights, welfare, and human dignity of our people are upheld. We need immediate intervention from our government officials now.

Please see the attached petition outlining the case of Max Londonio and we ask that you take immediate action to address all of the demands including:

To the Philippine Consulate, United States Congresspeople, and all responsible U.S. and Philippine state officials: Intervene and advocate for Maximo to be immediately removed from segregation and back to his previous unit. Push for his immediate release from the Northwest Detention Center!

To Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal: Keep your promise and ensure Max secures legal representation now! Intervene and ensure Max’s rights are upheld and he is returned to his previous unit.

To the San Francisco Philippine Consulate and Embassy: Ensure the rights and welfare of your nationals are upheld and utilize diplomatic advocacy to push for release of all Filipinos from unjust detention. Provide immediate financial and full coverage for legal support for Max and his family in the form of Assistance to Nationals (ATN).

To ICE: Expedite Max’s appeal to return to his previous unit and stop the blatant profiling of detainees and recklessly placing them in units against their will.

In addition, Ambassador Romualdez, we ask that you respond to the request from the Tanggol Migrante Network and the families of Filipinos who are detained or have already been deported. They have been requesting to meet with you for months to address the dire conditions that our people are facing.

We need immediate action now, our people cannot wait another day longer as they are being left to languish without the necessary legal, financial, or government resources.

Thank you,
