Rep. Brownley: co-sponsor the Green New Deal

Representative Julia Brownley

Congresswoman Julia Brownley, unlike many of her colleagues in Southern California, has not yet chosen to co-sponsor the Green New Deal Resolution.

On January 3, the day she was sworn in to the 116th Congress, she wrote, "I am committed to taking real action to curb the effects of climate change, protect public health, and build a competitive clean energy economy. Our future depends on it."

The eastern half of her district burned in 2018, the western half burned in 2017, and nothing will change until our leaders take strong, courageous action.

It's high time for Representative Brownley to take the climate threat seriously — by co-sponsoring the Green New Deal.

Dear Representative Brownley,

We are your constituents, representing every part of Ventura County from the Thomas fire to the Woolsey Fire and the Hill Fire. We are heartened to see you serve on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. However, we call on you to magnify your leadership on climate change by taking two additional steps:

First, we respectfully request that you co-sponsor the Green New Deal resolution authored by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, H.Res.109. Twenty-seven of your colleagues from California are co-sponsors, but your name is missing.

Second, to help ensure that all members of the Select Committee are free from the influence of fossil fuel money, we respectfully request that you sign the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge at www.nofossilfuelmoney.org.

On January 3, the day you were sworn in to the 116th Congress, you wrote, "I am committed to taking real action to curb the effects of climate change, protect public health, and build a competitive clean energy economy. Our future depends on it."

Too many of us in your district have already suffered from the fire disasters that are only getting worse because of climate change.

And nothing will change until our leaders take strong, courageous action. The objections, political or fiscal, vanish in the face of the harm that is now upon us.

We promise to celebrate after you co-sponsor the resolution.

Sincerely,
