Rep. Lynch, Block the Bombs!

Representative Stephen F. Lynch

We know that Congressman Stephen F. Lynch understands the genocidal actions Israel is enacting in the Gaza Strip from past resolutions and legislation he has signed on to and from public statements he has made. In an August 7th Instagram post, Representative Lynch acknowledged that over a thousand innocent Palestinians were killed by the Israeli military while attempting to obtain food at Gaza Humanitarian Foundation food distribution sites, and he called the actions “disgraceful”. While we appreciate his statements, when it comes to taking action to stop the U.S. from enabling Israel’s crimes, Rep.Lynch has up until now refused to vote to block weapons transfers to Israel. We need to call him out on it and demand he takes action!

Right now, there is a bill in Congress that would give Rep. Lynch the opportunity to do just that. We need to demand that Lynch votes YES and signs on to the Block the Bombs Act (H.R. 3565). This law would prevent the President from transferring to Israel the weapons it has been using to kill Palestinians.

It is imperative that Representative Lynch hears from us that we want No More Bombs for Israel - no more U.S. complicity! Please sign this letter telling Lynch that we want him to vote YES to Block the Bombs.

We will deliver this letter to Lynch’s Quincy office on August 27th at 4pm and we want you all to be there. Stay tuned for further details!!!

Dear Representative Stephen F. Lynch,

You have taken many principled stances regarding Israel’s actions against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, especially in regards to acknowledging Israel’s manufactured starvation of the Strip, and also by advocating for reinstating funding to UNRWA. Crucially, you have also publicly acknowledged that Israel has used U.S-origin weapons in a manner that is not consistent with U.S. law or international law (NSM-20 letter).

Summarized plainly, you know that Israel is committing genocide against the people of Gaza even if you won’t state that explicitly. However, when it comes to actually voting for preventing the transfer of U.S. weapons to Israel, you have refused to do so on the grounds that “Israel has a right to defend itself”. As your constituents, we, the undersigned, believe it is time for you to stop voting in a way that is inconsistent with your previous positions and to finally end the transfer of weapons to this criminal state. Furthermore, current polling shows that the majority of American voters also know that Israel is committing genocide and want the bombs to stop. For these reasons we ask that you co-sponsor H.R. 3565, the “Block the Bombs Act” which prohibits the President from transferring certain defense articles to Israel.

Your record of repeatedly voting to send more U.S-origin military aid to Israel despite its criminal and immoral behavior is both frustrating to your constituents, because it is incompatible with your previous positions, and wholly unacceptable because it makes us complicit in forced starvation and genocide. Sending weapons to Israel after observing how Israel has behaved towards Palestinians for almost two years only serves to reward Israel for starving Gaza. A country that is committing genocide and deliberately forcing starvation on a population does not deserve to “defend” itself against the people they are starving, and they certainly do not deserve U.S. help in doing it.

It is finally time to hold Israel accountable for its egregious actions and vote with the demands of your constituents. Please follow your colleagues and join the 33 U.S. Representatives who have already supported the “Block the Bombs Act” by cosponsoring it and voting YES.

Sincerely,
