Call on President Biden to pass the torch and pledge to support the new nominee
Democratic Members of Congress and Delegates to the Democratic National Convention
President Joe Biden has achieved great things. His administration led us out of the pandemic and has been rebuilding our economy, standing up to corporate greed, taking urgent climate action, and reestablishing American leadership around the world.
All of that – and much, much more – will be lost if Donald Trump takes back the presidency. Democrats need the strongest possible ticket to maximize our chances of winning in November. It has become very clear, based on both long term polling and the recent debate, that Democrats’ current ticket is not the strongest one we can put forward.
We have incredible talent in our party – including a vice president who made history once and could do it again, and governors who’ve proven their ability to win critical swing states. In 2020 Joe Biden committed to being a “transition” president. It is time for him to make good on that commitment, put his country first, and secure his legacy as the man who saved our democracy.
That’s why we,'re calling on President Biden to pass the torch and step aside so the Democratic National Convention can select a new nominee.
We are also making a commitment to double down and do everything we can to support that new nominee. As Democratic donors, activists, volunteers, and elected leaders, we pledge to:
Unite behind a new ticket. Some Democrats are concerned that Biden stepping aside will be divisive. But what Democrats care about, overwhelmingly, is defeating the existential threat to our democracy that is Donald Trump. If Biden does the right thing and passes the torch, we will unify around our new nominee, whoever that is.
Contribute to the new ticket. As donors and activists, we are concerned about investing in a campaign that cannot win. But we are committed to making our biggest contributions yet of both money and time to support a new Democratic ticket.
We simply cannot afford to lose this election. That is why we are pledging to do everything in our power to defeat Trump. President Biden must do the same. That means stepping down as nominee and passing the torch to a new generation of leaders. Trust our Party. We have what it takes to turn this around, together.

President Joe Biden has achieved great things. His administration led us out of the pandemic and has been rebuilding our economy, standing up to corporate greed, taking urgent climate action, and reestablishing American leadership around the world.
Despite that, I am writing to you to publicly ask him to withdraw his candidacy as Democratic for nominee.
All of the progress will be lost – and much, much more – will be lost if Donald Trump takes back the presidency.
That’s why we, the undersigned, call on President Biden to pass the torch and step aside so the Democratic National Convention can select a new nominee.
But we’re not just making a demand.
