To the United Nations, European Union and other entities which provide election observers,
We, The People, request impartial international monitors to observe the United States of America’s election this November 3, 2026.
Recent national elections in the U.S. have been steeped in controversy; numerous executive orders, court decisions, and belated law changes by our states have occurred in the last year.
Mail-in voting – a necessary element for voter participation for decades, the most secure form of voting – has been subject of executive orders and lawsuits even as early voting started in some states. Proposed changes to proof of identification implicate up to 67 million eligible married women voters being denied a ballot as well as threats of armed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents being present at polls. Polling sites have been shuttered to disadvantage targeted groups. Voting rules have been changed on acknowledged partisan basis to rewrite voting districts across the country.
There is a strong precedent: During the 2004 presidential race, multiple non-governmental organizations petitioned for international observers; after over 54 member nations approved of the request, election observers were dispatched to multiple U.S. states.
The Carter Center, a U.S. pioneer in electoral observation, and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation on March 2, 2026 agreed:
"If you have declining levels of trust in elections, you're going to have declining levels of trust in political actors... Recent election cycles have seen this erosion accelerate..., people respecting or trusting elections has just gotten lower and lower every year... [the solution requires] some kind of impartial, or what we used to call disinterested party, who doesn't have a stake in the outcome and has the resources available to investigate things carefully and thoroughly."
Under our Constitution, the ability of the sovereign People to act as the collective Sovereign directly is voiced through the periodic elections to hire or fire our government agents. For elected, time-limited agents to disenfranchise targeted swaths of voters is a coup d'etat before the election day. This petition functions as the voice of the Sovereign People calling upon our treaty partners to protect the Sovereign U.S.A under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
International oversight is crucial not only for the sake of our democracy, but for all other democracies which look to the U.S. for electoral practices.
