Respect for Adjunct Professors at Brookdale Community College, NJ
Brookdale Community College Board of Trustees
Brookdale Community College has been in negotiations with AFT Local 2222, United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey, Brookdale Chapter for several months. The college is insisting the our adjunct faculty must accept a per-credit-hour compensation rate that was negotiated by our full-time colleagues as an "overload" rate (beyond the standard workload).
In addition, BCC has only one adjunct faculty pay rate, unlike most other community colleges in New Jersey. Adjunct faculty who have taught at BCC for many years receive no additional pay for their loyalty to the College or their expertise in teaching BCC students.
Adjunct faculty do not receive health insurance or other benefits from the school. Brookdale must accept the Union's right to negotiate a rate that makes sense for their members. Brookdale must agree to a tiered pay scale to reward expertise and loyalty to the institution.

We, the undersigned, call upon Brookdale Community College's Board of Trustees to:
1. Respect the rights of the adjunct faculty union to bargain their own compensation rates, apart from the "overload" rate negotiated by a union for full-time workers.
2. Propose per-credit-hour rates for their adjunct faculty that keep up with inflation, and
3. Reward the faculty who have proven their expertise and sustained a long term commitment to the school by creating additional, higher pay tiers.
