Restore the Dearborn Bike Lane Protection

Mayor Bruce Harrell and the Seattle Department of Transportation

The Dearborn bike lanes are an important and necessary connection between the Rainier Valley and Chinatown/International District with no alternative connection. Concrete protection is necessary for the bike lanes to function as useful infrastructure because traffic speeds on Dearborn are far in excess of 25mph.

Despite the Dearborn bike lane's importance in the southend bike network, part of the protection for the bike lane on Dearborn under the 12th Avenue/Jose Rizal bridge has been removed on the eastbound side without notice or mitigation.

Why were the Dearborn bike lane barriers ripped out? When will they be replaced? In the meantime, what will be done to protect people walking and rolling who rely on this infrastructure for safety?
