Revitilising Downtown With a Community Owned Health Center
The Shreveport City Council and Mayor Tom Arceneaux
Help us fight for a community-owned health center in downtown Shreveport! Our mayor says he wants to tackle "blight" in the city, so instead of waiting for the rich and privileged to use that fight to kick out the homeless, let's instead fight to tackle two problems at once! Let's help reduce the city-wide rot that many of our buildings are experiencing by having the city reclaim a building downtown and renovating it. Once they've done this, we can also begin to help address the homeless issue downtown by turning this building into a community-owned health center that can provide a number of basic free and low-cost services meant to directly help with common issues faced by low-income folks in this city. We make it community-owned so that the needs of the people who use and live near the center are always heard and respected, and it gives further opportunity for more investment into the center so that it grows into bigger and better things! This project is not only financially possible, it's likely to have returns to the city that are ten times the original value!

Dear Leaders of Shreveport,
We, the people of Shreveport, formally request the creation of a community-owned health center to be created from one of the many abandoned buildings downtown. We call for the creation of the community health center in order to it can provide needed support services to the many homeless and low-income folks of Shreveport in a time of great need within our state and city. We call for these services to be provided and at a free to low-cost range and that these services, for the sake of ease on the city, be provided with the cooperation and support of our local non-profit infrastructure here in the city. We call for this center to be partially owned and controlled by a council that is composed of the non-profit organizations helping to run the center and a voting majority of community members who live near the center. This project is beyond feasible, in a logistical, financial, and social support matter, and is well in line with the Mayor's fight against blight within the city. There will be a document presented to the leader of Shreveport, going more into detail about this project and how it will function. We look forward to the passing of this policy through the council in a timely but appropriate manner.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
The people of Shreveport
