RNs Demand Parity for Techs

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Management

The Tech unit is facing an uphill battle in their demands for a fair union contract. This includes management's unwillingness to offer them parity in their shift and call differentials with what we were able to win. We want to show management that we will not be divided by union, profession, or bargaining unit, and that we support the Techs' demand to have parity with our differentials.

As an RN at PeaceHealth, I work with members of our Tech unit every day. They are an essential part of Sacred Heart’s care model, and are tasked with doing the hard work of caring for patients and saving lives. When they work night shifts, they incur the same kinds of stress and costs to their health as the RNs do. When they are “on call” they have the same kinds of limitations that the RNs experience. So we must acknowledge that their lack of parity with our “on call” and night shift differentials illustrates a clear form of inequality that stains our hospital’s reputation. As an RN, I believe that the Techs represented by the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals should receive parity with the RNs for their call and shift differentials and that management should agree to living wages for all of their staff.
