Road usage for Hospitality in Bristol

Bristol City Council

The hospitality industry is in crisis.

In October 2022 the regulations allowing use of the road for hospitality is coming to an end. This mean that the nice huts and decking outside venues, or tables and chairs on the street have to be removed.

We are requesting that usage is extended until 30 September 2023 in line with national regulations for off sales.

Without this extension many venues will lose out on trade, have to lay off staff and jeopardise their future business.

We are requesting that Bristol City Council use all their powers to extend the use of the roadside for hospitality businesses and retain those structures that are currently in place.

Please protect Bristol's hospitality businesses by extending the use of the road for hospitality through until 30 September 2023.

The hospitality industry is in crisis and any changes that affect the amount of revenue they are able to generate is going to put them in jeopardy. This is even more so for independent businesses across the city.

Without such action about 1,000 outside seats per day, some used for multiple sittings, will no longer be available. There are still people that do not wish to go into venues due to the ongoing pandemic and the removal of this important addition for venues would see over £50,000 per day taken away from Bristol's hospitality venues.

With the cost of living crisis affecting the hospitality industry even more than others the removal of this needed revenue will lead to job losses and businesses folding.

I am requesting that Bristol City Council use all their powers to extend the use of the roadside for hospitality businesses and retain those structures that are currently in place.
