The average student pays $1,200 a year on textbooks. Please take a stand by funding a competitive grant program to help professors switch to open textbooks in their classrooms.

In 2011, the University of Massachusetts - Amherst launched their Open Education Initiative. After disbursing 39 grants for $1000 over the course of four years, the OEI projects student savings at almost $1.5 million. Many open experts see the UMass Initiative as the premier example of a successful open textbook program.

It's time for Rutgers to take action too.
