To the Massachusetts legislative delegation,
1. Bill S.1681 and H.2580 (Safe Communities Act)
- Prohibits local law enforcement from questioning individuals about their immigration status.
- Protects basic rights of silence and protection from self-incrimination.
- Prohibits local law enforcement from initiating contact with ICE about a person’s pending release from custody prior to the end of their incarceration sentence.
- Prohibits agreements that deputize local officials as federal immigration agents, at the expense of state taxpayers.
2. Bill H.2328 (Rent stabilization + eviction protections)
- Limits landlords’ ability to evict tenants without just cause.
- Gives cities and towns the ability to regulate the rent of certain housing.
- Sets an annual cap on rent increases.
- Allows cities and towns to require assistance for relocated tenants.
3. Bill H.1954 (Immigrant Legal Defense Act)
- Provides free legal defense to eligible low-income immigrants.
- Develops a statewide system of immigration legal representation.
- Establishes an advisory board.
- Oppose resolutions such as HRS 488:
- Condemn and deny spending for mass deportations.
- Refuse collaboration between local/state authorities and ICE.

We demand that immediate actions be taken to ensure the protection of all residents of Massachusetts. Instead of spending money to guarantee free healthcare, create jobs, or lower rent, Massachusetts has allowed Congress and the Trump administration to kidnap people based on their immigration status, forcefully displacing residents and tearing families apart, sometimes by mistake and frequently without following due process. These are our neighbors, friends, partners, parents, colleagues—foundational and cherished members of our communities.
Therefore, we call on you to co-sponsor, and speak favorably in public forums and the media about the following:
