#SanctionIsraelNow: Call on Canada to Sanction Illegal Israeli Settlements
The Canadian Government
To this day, the Canadian government has imposed sanctions on some individual Ministers within the Israeli government and some of their key allies in the extremist settler movement.
However, the problem goes beyond a handful of settlers in masks setting up one farm. This is about how Israel is facilitating the systematic theft of all land and forcing Palestinians in the West Bank out of their homes by using the extremist settler movement as an unofficial arm of the state. Settlement expansion is systemic and requires systems level sanctions

For decades, Israel has stolen land throughout occupied Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan by building barriers, developing settlements, establishing farms, and creating so-called closed military zones in a deliberate effort to continually expand its borders.
According to international and Canadian law, Israeli settlements are war crimes and the racially segregated situation they create throughout Palestine is a crime called apartheid. Canada has a legal obligation to ensure these atrocious crimes do not occur under any circumstance. Yet, Canada still allows its residents to do business with these illegal colonies despite recognizing them as war crimes. It is incoherent and it does not have to be this way. We can change it together by sanctioning Israel’s illegal settlement expansion.
We can stop Canadians from doing business with these criminal colonies. Will you join our movement to pressure Canada to sanction all Israeli settlements?
Background
Settlements are real estate developments designed to illegally take over territory and they are increasing exponentially. The Israeli military and settler mobs in these settlements directly affect the lives of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including by physically forcing Palestinians off their land, often through physical assault and murder. Settlers target the Palestinian economy, such as by taking over or destroying olive groves and grazing fields for livestock. Israel also demolishes Palestinian homes to make way for new and expanded Jewish settlement.
What would sanctions change?
Sanctions on Israel’s illegal settlements would block anyone in Canada (or Canadians outside of Canada) from conducting any business with Israeli settlements. This means:
1. No trade with Israeli settlements;
2. No supplying to or receiving parts, produce, or other goods/services from Israeli settlements, directly or indirectly;
3. No financial services or support to Israeli settlements, including through investments.
