Sanctuary Campus for UW-EC

Chancellor Michael Carney

Across the country, people are being kidnapped from their homes, places of work, schools, and communities by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). They are being shipped off to foreign prisons, deported, or placed in concentration camps. The abuses of human rights continue to pile up across the country, where every day another human being is brutalized by masked, unidentified men conscripted by our government. To be silent is to agree and to refuse to act is to be complicit.

Multiple people were abducted in Eau Claire over the summer. ICE officers were spotted on campus last semester.

We will not let our teachers, classmates, and those who work at the university be fodder in the institutional war being waged against human beings merely seeking to live their lives. The university administration must publicly acknowledge that those employed by and studying at the university are not acceptable collateral. They must promise not to sell out their students, faculty, and workers and not to allow unnamed, unidentified individuals to kidnap people in broad daylight on the UW-Eau Claire campus.
