America’s wild-caught shrimp industry is in crisis.

American shrimp harvesters are facing unsustainable dockside prices while enormous volumes of imported shrimp continue to enter the United States. In 2025 alone, the United States imported approximately 1.75 billion pounds of shrimp valued at more than $7 billion.

Our domestic shrimpers cannot continue operating when the price they receive for their catch does not keep pace with the cost of fuel, insurance, equipment, supplies, vessel maintenance, and supporting their families.

This is about more than shrimp boats. It is about American jobs, working waterfronts, seafood businesses, coastal communities, food security, and preserving generations of knowledge and tradition.

We appreciate the actions President Trump and his Administration have taken to address unfair foreign trade, and we strongly support the America First Seafood Strategy. But additional action is urgently needed before more American shrimp boats and businesses are forced out of the industry.

We, the undersigned, respectfully call on President Trump and his Administration to:

1. Address excessive shrimp imports by examining all lawful measures available, including quotas, tariff-rate quotas, safeguards, and other appropriate import restrictions.
2. Aggressively enforce U.S. trade laws against dumping, foreign subsidies, circumvention, transshipment, mislabeling, origin fraud, and products associated with forced labor.
3. Restore and fund Trade Adjustment Assistance for fishermen harmed by foreign imports and unfair trade.
4. Greatly expand federal purchasing of American wild-caught shrimp and seafood for schools, food banks, nutrition programs, disaster feeding, the military, and other federal institutions.
5. Ensure federal seafood purchases provide a real and measurable benefit to American harvesters at the boat and dock level.
6. Strengthen Buy American Seafood policies that put American wild-caught seafood and American fishermen first whenever legally possible.

America should not become dependent on foreign countries for seafood that can be sustainably harvested from our own waters.

Our fishermen want to work. They are asking for a fair market, a fair price for their catch, and a fighting chance to survive.

We respectfully ask President Trump to direct his America First Seafood team to develop an immediate coordinated action plan to protect America’s domestic shrimp industry.
