Clean energy delivers massive benefits, from good-paying jobs to lower pollution risks, to lower energy prices, and the American people overwhelmingly support clean energy. Clean energy investments are delivering for communities across the country and defunding clean energy will just increase pollution and put people out of work. The cost of obstructing clean energy progress is too high: From slower job growth and lost economic benefits to volatile energy prices and increasingly damaging and expensive extreme weather disasters.

Dear Members of Congress,
As a person of faith and conscience, I believe we are morally called to care for our communities, love our neighbors, and act with justice and compassion. That call includes protecting the health, jobs, and future for all people. Repealing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) clean energy tax credits will endanger jobs, stop clean energy development, and stall clean energy projects in thousands of communities across the nation, including mine. These investments in clean transportation, energy efficiency for buildings and home appliances, and rapidly growing energy sources like solar and wind, are lowering consumer energy costs, reducing air pollution and associated health challenges, and cutting down on pollution that is worsening the climate crisis and fueling extreme weather. Additionally, these measures provide care for our friends and neighbors and God’s creation.
Congregations like mine are excited to put our faith into action by investing in energy improvements and accessing programs like Direct Pay. Weakening, undoing, or otherwise disrupting these investments and incentives will only serve to harm our communities. Taking away clean energy means more pollution, more weather disasters, less competition, fewer choices, and higher energy costs for everyone. Caring for our neighbors and our communities means preserving jobs, keeping utility bills low for all households and a protecting our climate. IRA investments and tax credits are delivering economic, environmental, and public health benefits. We call on Congress to retain these critical investments. Protect the IRA.
