Save Dover district's bus services (and bus services across Kent)
Kent County Council, Cabinet member Highways & Transportation; director Transportation
KCC (and majority Conservative group at Kent County Council) is planning on cutting bus subsidies, which threatens to end essential services across Kent, including services for disabled people (the Kent Karrier Services). This is a time when we need to be investing in better cheaper public transport, NOT encouraging more traffic on our already busy, congested roads.
Local Dover district services likely affected include:
South East Kent Karrier - Canterbury, Dover and Folkestone and Hythe. Mon-Fri (4,617 journeys last year).
Sandwich Connect - Staple Sandwich Northbourne. Mon - Sat.
S41/S42/S44 - Dover/Deal/ Sandwich/Canterbury Mon-Sat.
60/61/61A - Dover town. Mon - Sat
90 / 60/61A - Aycliffe / Whitfield / Dover / Aycliffe. Sun.
Millions announced for new FastTrack Bus, Whitfield / Dover Priory couple of weeks ago? And cuts to these services that Dover district people rely on 2 weeks later? This is a really backwards and harmful plan.
See here for full details of proposed cuts.
Kent County Council will be launching a public consultation towards the end of February - we will let you know the details when we have them.

With the dire state of Kent's already congested roads, especially in Dover district, rising fuel prices and the requirements for strong action on climate change, bus services need to be invested in, not cut. We therefore call on you to reverse your plans for cuts to these essential bus services and to invest in additional services that are urgently required in our district and across Kent.
