CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodriguez and Queens College Interim President Elizabeth Hendrey

In June, College Assistants (CAs) and Non-Teaching Adjuncts (NTAs) at Queens College were laid off and others in those titles had their hours cut. Now Queens College administrators want to cut departmental adjunct budgets by 25% or more!

We, the undersigned Queens College staff, faculty, students, parents, alumni, and members of the broader CUNY and New York City communities are alarmed by the harm that administrators are doing to Queens College. We demand:

• CUNY Central remove the austerity measures that it has imposed to Queens College’s detriment.

• Queens College immediately reinstate the college assistants and non-teaching adjuncts who have been laid off since spring semester 2026 ended.

• Queens College reverse the directive that academic departments cut at least 25% of adjunct budgets.

Queens College needs deep investment in order to realize CUNY’s mission to “provide a public first-rate education to all students, regardless of means or background.”
