Save Sheraton Jobs - NO dorm at the Sheraton
Northeastern University
The students of Northeastern University are asking the University Administration to support the workers at the Sheraton Boston and NOT use the hotel as a dorm.
After years of marches, strikes and negotiations, Boston union hotel workers earn good wages, essentially free healthcare, a housing plan, a legal plan, a training center and retirement with dignity.
The Sheraton Boston is the largest hotel in Boston, employing hundreds of union employees. According to a recent article, the new owner of the Sheraton (Värde Partners and Hawkins Way Capital) is considering converting 427 rooms in the Sheraton into dorm rooms for Northeastern students. If allowed to make this change, over one hundred (100) primarily women, people of color, and immigrants would lose their good union hotel jobs.
The students of Northeastern stand for an equitable recovery from the pandemic, and therefore ask Northeastern to NOT turn almost half of the Sheraton into dorms. Student housing should not displace good jobs.
