Save the Little Hornets Daycare Center
Mansfield School Committee, Mansfield Town Manager, and Mansfield Select Board
The proposed elimination of the Little Hornets Daycare is a loss to Mansfield parents, students, and community. Little Hornets is more than a high-quality daycare center; it is a valuable resource for Mansfield Public Schools students and staff.
At a time when public schools across the state and across the country are struggling to attract educators, Mansfield distinguishes itself by being able to offer affordable, high-quality childcare to families working in the district. This is a resource Mansfield can’t afford to lose.
Since its opening in 1974, Little Hornets has provided countless Mansfield educators and their families with peace of mind knowing that as they teach the children of Mansfield, their own children were being well cared for just minutes away. It has also offered countless students vital learning and career building opportunities through its internship program.
The town and school district in the past have found creative ways to keep Little Hornets open amid competing needs for space in the district. We ask that they do so again to sustain this precious resource for our community.
Little Hornets makes our school district a better place to work and a better place to learn. We must do all that we can to ensure it stays open. If you agree, please join with the Mansfield Educators’ Association in signing our petition imploring local elected leaders to find a new home for Little Hornets.

We, the undersigned, respectfully ask that the Mansfield School Committee and other town officials work to prevent the elimination of the Little Hornets Daycare Center. Little Hornets is an invaluable resource for the people of Mansfield that we can’t afford to lose.
Since its opening in 1974, Little Hornets has provided countless Mansfield educators and their families with peace of mind knowing that as they teach the children of Mansfield, their own children were being well cared for just minutes away.
At a time when public schools across the state and across the country are struggling to attract educators, Mansfield distinguishes itself by being able to offer affordable, high-quality childcare to families working in the district.
And considering the waiting list for openings at Little Hornets, it is clear that the childcare center is fulfilling an urgent need; rather than facing termination, Little Hornets should instead be allowed to grow.
Little Hornets has also been a tremendous educational resource for Mansfield students who learn career and life skills there. Students regularly engage in internship opportunities within the Little Hornets program. Little Hornets educators provide exceptional training opportunities for students interested in careers in early childhood and have frequently provided paid jobs for high school students after school and post-graduation.
The town and school district in the past have found creative ways to keep Little Hornets open amid competing needs for space in the district. We are asking for the school district leadership and town leadership to study existing municipal space with the goal of finding a suitable home for Little Hornets before deciding to close this much needed and highly successful childcare center.
