Say No to Any New Data Centers in Iowa — Sign to Support a Moratorium Now!

Governor Kim Reynolds, the Iowa Legislature, County Elected Officials, and State Environmental Regulators

Iowa's water quality and public healther are already in crisis — adding new data centers without any legal protections will only make this crisis worse!

According to Iowa Public Radio, Iowa already has 64 data centers — and Big Tech oligarchs are proposing to build another 25 brand-new data centers in the next few years.

Rural communities shouldn’t be sacrificed so corporations can power massive data centers. People deserve clean water, clean air, and a real voice in their communities and what happens in their own backyards.

We demand an immediate statewide moratorium on all new AI data center construction until comprehensive environmental, water, energy, and public health impacts are fully studied, and legal protections are passed to protect Iowa’s water, farmland, public health, and rural economy.

Add your voice. Stand with Iowa’s land, water, and people!

Iowa’s environment and water quality are at a breaking point.

We can’t afford to give another corporate taxpayer handout to out-of-state Big Tech oligarchs that have the potential to further pollute our state’s water and increase health problems across Iowa.

We are calling on our state's elected officials to:

1. Enact an immediate statewide moratorium on all new AI data center construction until comprehensive environmental impact assessments are completed.
2. Prohibit rezoning of farmland for data center construction — Iowa’s agricultural land must be protected from industrial tech sprawl.
3. Require full water impact studies before any data center is permitted, with binding limits on water withdrawal from Iowa’s waterways and aquifers.
4. End taxpayer subsidies and corporate tax breaks for trillion-dollar tech companies building in Iowa at the expense of our communities.
5. Hold transparent public hearings in affected communities before any future data center projects are approved.

Sincerely,
