We demand that New York State regulators reject National Grid's Long-Term Gas Plan proposal, which would extend the lifespan of its toxic fracked methane gas infrastructure, such as the Greenpoint liquefied fracked gas (LNG) storage facility adjacent to residential buildings and small businesses as well as the push to expand the 40-year-old, 414 mile "Iroquois" pipeline in Dutchess and Greene Co's beautiful farm communities to bring more toxic gas to Long Island and NYC. This aged pipeline must be retired.
Instead, we call on the Public Service Commission to launch a new proceeding that acknowledges the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for gas reduction, and that New Yorkers are involved in the decisions that affect our communities.
The new gas plan must prioritize safe and clean alternatives for heating and cooling, such as thermal energy networks, electrification, and energy efficiency.
We cannot allow National Grid to continue to put its corporate profits over the health of our communities and the planet.
The company's failure to reduce gas is non-compliance with New York State laws and the urgency of the moment. We demand that the PSC promote the development of thermal energy networks and other green solutions that will provide good jobs and protect our environment.
We demand climate justice and a sustainable future for New York!
Sincerely,
