Say Yes to Housing on Elizabeth Street!
Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro
The Elizabeth Street Garden site presents a rare opportunity to create deeply affordable housing in one of the most expensive and exclusionary neighborhoods in New York City.
At a time when thousands of New Yorkers are struggling with housing insecurity and displacement, building homes, especially for low-income seniors, should be a moral imperative! While green space is valuable, it cannot come at the expense of desperately needed housing.
Prioritizing affordable housing at Elizabeth Street is a chance to make SoHo more inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the urgent needs of our city.

Dear Mr. Mastro,
I’m urging you to stop standing in the way of desperately needed affordable housing at the Elizabeth Street Garden site.
Our city is in the midst of a housing crisis, and this project will provide safe, permanent homes, especially for low-income seniors, where they are urgently needed. Opposing this development prioritizes an underused private garden over the basic human need for shelter.
Please do the right thing and stop fighting this project. New Yorkers deserve a city that works for everyone—not just a privileged few.
