Show Your Support for Frontline Port Drivers!

Ports of LA and Long Beach Harbor Commissioners and Directors, and Mayors of LA and Long Beach

Port drivers are on the frontlines ensuring that critical necessities and medical supplies can be delivered to our homes and hospitals. Yet the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are not doing enough to protect port drivers' safety or that of their families. Stand strong with port drivers today calling on the ports to protect these drivers and to ensure that they and their families are provided with a basic safety net.

Our nation and our world are in unprecedented times. We, as a nation, have come together to rally around our frontline workers. They are the heroes who make daily decisions to put their own lives and their families’ lives at risk to supply our basic necessities. Truck drivers at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are transporting the essential supplies we need from the largest ports in the country to our hospitals and our homes to save our lives in this pandemic.

We stand behind port drivers and deeply value their critical work. Sadly, they are facing extreme and preventable risk. We call on the ports to take immediate action to protect these drivers and to ensure that they and their families are provided with a basic safety net. We are ALL vulnerable when just one of us is vulnerable. This pandemic has shown us that we are all connected.

We join with port drivers in calling on the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to:

• Provide drivers cash assistance right now including access to unemployment and other payments to replace their lost income.
• Make sure they can take paid leave so that they are able to stay home when they are sick and to take care of their families.
• Suspend all payment requirements for truck loans, leases and insurance.
• Provide free COVID-19 testing and treatment for all drivers regardless of health insurance.
• Provide drivers with masks, gloves and other personal protective gear.
• Wipe down and disinfect the speakers, phones and other shared equipment after each use.
• Provide hand washing stations, hand sanitizer, and clean bathrooms at all port facilities.
• Enforce social distancing at the ports.
