Shreveport says "NO!" to Data Centers!

The Shreveport City Council and Mayor Tom Arceneaux

Our city "leaders" are trying to push through unpopular policies surrounding a huge data center! They've signed NDAs to hide their motivations and beneficiaries, all while doing no work to hear the public out on their concerns—especially of those most affected by this project, the residents of the Greenwood area. We've heard from our mayor and others on the council about the proposed benefits of this data center, but not once have we heard them express concern about the impact of the data center on residents living near it. Concerns about noise, air pollution, increases in utility rates (while the grid continues to degrade) and wastewater have not been addressed at all! We say NO to unwanted, undemocratic data centers! We say NO to quarter-century tax breaks and NDAs! Sign this petition to call on our leaders to put a stop to this in favor of a more democratic process!

By signing, you're calling on the mayor and the city council to do the following:
1. Pause all negotiations with the data center company.
2. Reveal, and where possible break, the terms of the NDAs that the city has signed regarding these data centers.
3. Create a new negotiation process that centers the will of the people, and focuses first and foremost on the wants and needs of those potentially impacted by said project.

Dear members of the Shreveport City Council and Mayor Arceneaux,

We, the people of Shreveport and specifically the residents of (insert here), demand an immediate halt on all plans with the proposed data center project within the Shreveport area in favor of a plan that better respects the wishes of the people. The fact that many members of different municipal bodies within Shreveport have already signed NDAs regarding this matter shows a direct disregard for the will of the people. By entering these NDAs you are signaling that we the public, are somehow to incompetent to understand these projects which is blatantly false. Despite you're lack of trust in the people, the people have done the work and we are not happy with what we've seen. To the impacts on water waste, noise levels, power grid strain, and nearly a quarter century of tax breaks, you expect us to foot the bill? We say no! Instead we demand the following:

1. Pause all negotiations with this data center company.
2. Revealing, and where possible breaking, the terms of the NDAs that those in government have signed regarding these data centers.
3. The creation of a new negotiation process that centers the will of the people, and focuses first and foremost on the wants and needs of those potentially impacted by said project.
