Sign if you agree with Elizabeth Warren: Criminal liability for executives who misuse bailout funds

Congress

We already know that much of the bailout funds for coronavirus relief went to corporations who don't need the money like small businesses do. And with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin responsible for handling $500 BILLION in stimulus money, the program is ripe for abuse.

At a May 19 hearing for the Senate Banking Committee, Elizabeth Warren asked Mnuchin if there was any guarantee that companies receiving the funds be required to retain a single employee on payroll—given that 36 million Americans have filed for unemployment.

When he declined, she pressed to ask if executives who submit false information or misuse the funds be held criminally liable. Again, Mnuchin declined to make a firm commitment.

Congress passed half a trillion dollars to bail out businesses during this pandemic, and put Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin in charge for handling these funds. There is no guarantee that businesses won't keep laying people off, or even misuse the bailout money with impunity.

Sign if you agree with Senator Warren: We need criminal liability for business executives who misuse this program.

I am appalled that businesses who are getting half a trillion dollars in stimulus funds have no obligation to keep workers employed, and executives are not under any criminal liability if they misuse the funds. Congress needs to pass some serious legislation with teeth.
