Betsy DeVos, Donald Trump’s Secretary of Education, should resign immediately.

Secretary DeVos is currently being held in contempt of court for violating an order to stop collecting loans from thousands of former students at for-profit colleges that shut down over allegations of fraud. Americans currently struggle with $1.6 trillion dollars in outstanding student debt- an exorbitant number, which includes 54% of young people, and is leading to a generation less educated than its predecessors.

As of 1990, the U.S. was first in 4 year degrees for 25 to 34 year olds. Thirty years later, it’s dropped to 12th place.  

DeVos’ top aide resigned last month, calling America’s student loan system “insanity.”

The student loan crisis is real, and DeVos has repeatedly sided with lenders and for-profit colleges, against students.

Betsy DeVos was unqualified when Trump nominated her, and her actions in office have shown an utter disregard for the welfare of the students she should be serving.
