Animal Welfare Investigations Project

Cats are being subjected to extreme, deliberate cruelty inside organised online networks.

Cats are electrocuted, drowned, burned, mutilated, starved in cages, and physically restrained while abuse continues for extended periods. In some cases, abusers resuscitate cats to prolong their suffering. With new videos appearing every few hours.

Kittens are often used because they are easier to control. The abuse is filmed and shared for entertainment, status, or competition. Challenges have been documented that reward higher body counts, including a “100 cat kill” competition.

Weak penalties allow offenders to repeat and escalate abuse. Minimal consequences have failed to stop the violence and instead fuelled its spread internationally, including into the UK and Europe.
