The Congress of the United States of America
Trump and his Co-President Elon Musk have demanded that officials at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency scour their records for any spending that mention key words like climate change, methane, greenhouse gas, Paris agreement, and carbon.
NOAA is one of the world's top weather and climate agencies, and includes the National Weather Service, which provides weather forecasts and disaster warnings that every American and industry from aviation to local water systems rely on. Their research into climate change and its impacts on disasters like wildfires, floods and hurricanes is a cornerstone of our work to make Big Oil pay for climate damages and adaptation. Their early warnings about the Los Angeles wildfires helped save lives and protect Americans.
But MAGA-minions have been wanting to gut NOAA and NWS for years. Their goal is to replace lifesaving alerts and climate research with privatized, subscription-based forecasts and climate denial. They've already proposed steep funding cuts for NOAA and related scientists, and Project 2025 specifically called NOAA a “primary component of the climate-change alarm industry.”
And, of course, none of this is legal. Congress set up NOAA and funded their work on climate science and weather. Attacking NOAA is just another part of Trump and Musk's dirty coup. They're stealing from Americans, and replacing science with climate denial.

NOAA and the National Weather Service provide life-saving, essential research and forecasts to Americans, free of charge. But President Trump and Elon Musk have targeted NOAA scientists for cuts and are conducting an inquisition into words and phrases related to climate change and climate science. This is both illegal and wrong. I call on Congress to protect NOAA and climate science.
