I urge you to support the Farm System Reform Act. We must change the fundamental structure of our food system and move away from factory farms.
This legislation would revitalize independent family farms and rural communities by:

- Putting a moratorium on new and expanding large factory farms
- Phasing out existing large factory farms by 2040
- Holding Big Ag corporations responsible for harm caused by their factory farms
- Providing a voluntary buyout program for contract farmers who want to transition away from factory farms
- Strengthening the Packers & Stockyards Act to protect family farmers and ranchers
- Restoring mandatory country-of-origin labeling for meat
- Prohibiting the USDA from labeling foreign imported meat products as “Product of USA”

This is an important bill. Farmers are in crisis because the U.S. livestock and poultry system is dominated by a handful of multinational corporations. These industrial-scale farms cruelly confine tens of thousands of animals in cramped, unsanitary conditions that put the safety of our food at risk. They pollute our air and water, they harm the welfare of animals and workers, they extract wealth from rural communities and push family farmers out of business.
