SIGN NOW: Tell Mitch McConnell to end the government shutdown
Senator Mitch McConnell
More than two weeks into Donald Trump’s government shutdown, tens of millions of Americans are bracing for the impact.
Approximately 50 million taxpayers could see their tax refunds frozen if the government doesn’t fully re-open in January. Thirty-eight million low-income Americans could have their food stamps severely reduced or cut off altogether. And more than 800,000 federal workers will go without a paycheck this week making it tough for many of them to pay the rent or mortgage, make school payments or even put food on the table.
Last week, as their first order of business, the U.S. House of Representatives passed funding bills to fully re-open the government; bills that had previously been passed unanimously by the Senate just two weeks prior.
However, bowing to pressure from the White House, Mitch McConnell refuses to bring these bills up for a vote.
Stand with Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund and sign the petition demanding that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hold a vote to end the government shutdown, put people back to work and send taxpayers their tax refunds.

If the government remains partially shutdown for “months or even years,” as President Trump has threatened, it would have a severe impact on the U.S. economy:
-- There are more than 800,000 federal employees who are either working without pay or have been furloughed. Many of them and their families won’t be able to make rent or mortgage payments or keep up with regular daily expenses.
-- If 38 million people have their food stamps cut off, this impacts both the families’ ability to put food on the table, but also the incomes of grocers and retailers who service these families.
-- If about $140 billion in taxpayer refunds are delayed, this would have a dramatic impact on family budgets and our economy as families would not be able to spend their expected refunds.
Stop playing games with American families’ livelihoods and the U.S. economy. We demand that the Senate immediately hold a vote to end the government shutdown. Pass the House-approved spending bills that you yourself voted for just weeks ago.
